South Korea Religion
Religious Background
In South Korea, you can freely practice any religion. However, traditionally many Koreans follow Confucianism, a moral philosophy. Some practices that South Koreans follow that deals with Confucianism is families honor their ancestors in special traditional ceremonies. 57% of South Koreans are not religiously active, 20% are are protestants, 16% are Buddhist, and 8% are Roman catholic.
Covid-19 Outbreak
Coronavirus took a toll on people who practice Confucianism and Buddhism, praying at the temple was most likely restricted to limit the spread of the virus. With the first case reported in late January 2020, it wasn't a big shock. Dealing with MERS in 2015 (Middle East respiratory syndrome), Korea was well prepared with the new virus that arrived. They started testing and tracking cases. Korean residents began to wear masks and social distance which dramatically brought the cases down. With Koreans continuing these actions life may be back to normal where they can pray and do daily
activities.
