Israel Demographic Data Birth Rate: 17.6    Death Rate: 5.3  infant mortality rate: 3.3  Life expectancy: 83 yrs  Literacy rate: 97.8 GDP per Capita: 36,400  Israel Quality of life  Israel has a good quality of life. This is defined by a lower death, birth, and infant mortality rate than average. They have a high literacy and life expectancy rates. The GDP is also high. Both males and females have education which proves that they have access to good schools.  Way of life  Israel has a relatively high way of life they have the income levels are similar to the income levels of European countries such as Spain and Greece. The life expectancy in Israel is ranked among some of the highest in the world. It has an excellent system of health and medical care. Many of the cities are built on ancient cites but they also have large and modern areas. They feature high rise apartments and office buildings. Like Urban areas in all countries the biggest problems involve are rapid growth. Roads and houses sometimes fail to keep up with the demands. There is large traffic congestion and pollution has become a larger problem in some of the larger cites.  Coronavirus impact on way of life  As coronavirus started Israel initiated a lock down which threatened the economy and the luxury a lot of the people lived in.  Government Background  Israel is a democratic republic. It has no written constitution in instead the follow "basic laws". These "Basic Laws are passed down by the Knesset, The Israeli parliament. The Knesset is a One house body that consists of 120 members. The members of The Knesset can only serve for a term that does not exceed 4 years. The Knesset participates in the formation of national polices, approves budgets and taxes, and passes legislation. All Israelis may vote as long as they are 18 or older. But unlike the US they do not cast ballots instead they vote for a party list. If a specific party vote receives 33% of a vote then there would be 40 seats. The Prime leader is the head of the Israeli government he is the leader of the party and controls most of the seats in the Knesset.   Economic Background  Israel started off as a very poor country. It has very little agricultural and industrial production. The economy though has grown drastically since 1948. They live well although they have very few natural resources and a limited water supply. Israel depends on the U.S for economic well being. Most businesses are privately owned but a large amount are owned by the government. A influential organization of labor known as the General federation of labor owns a large number of businesses, farms and industries. Most of the people work in the service industries are employed by the government or by a government owned business. most of Israels income comes from tourism, for example restaurants and hotels.   Religion in Israel  about 75% of the people in Israel are Jews, Many of the Jew in Israel migrated there to escape the persecution of Jews in their hometowns. Israel was created as a homeland for Jews In 1950 the Knesset passed down a law of return for the Jews. it allows any person that was born of a Jewish mother or was converted to Judaism and is not a member of another religion can return to Israel. They will be offered immigrant job training and temporary housing. Following the Jews at about 14%  are the Muslims who are ethnically Arabs.
