France is a unitary republic (unitary republic with a bicameral legislature composed of the National Assembly and the Senate) the French constitutional system is often described as semipresidential,(semi-presidential system or dual executive system is a system of government in which a president exists alongside a prime minister and a cabinet, with the latter being responsible to the legislature of the state) and is characterized by a structure of interconnecting powers between the legislative and executive branches.
